On Tuesday, PNM will show off its new Manzano Solar Energy Center in Los Lunas.
Manzano, and a new PNM Los Lunas Solar Energy Center expansion, are part of a $22.8 million investment for the state’s largest utility. The entire project, which will officially open Tuesday at 9 a.m., has enough cells to power nearly 5,000 homes.
The project is part of PNM’s plan to double the amount of solar capacity the utility will own in 2014.
The Manzano center features 108,000 solar photovoltaic panels capable of producing enough energy to power about 2,500 homes. In a news release, PNM said the projects created 190 construction jobs, and will generate $400,000 in tax revenue for Valencia County next year.
The Los Lunas Solar Energy Center came online in 2011.
